President's Message

As our Season is well underway with our second production scheduled to open next week, we have been very busy on many fronts.

New lighting is now in place in the auditorium which will show off our actors and sets to their best advantage. Thank you to Ethan Vail, for your expertise. Our sets, with both Jan VanWart (Set Designer) and Rick Kopp (Crew Chief) and skilled construction crew are all working as a team to create the best sets possible on our tiny stage (compared to larger theatres). New tools and materials, and a lot of imagination have taken us up another notch.

Our Off Stage Actors program is already fully booked for the Season. In case you missed the notice in the playbill, we have added a second company besides our mainstage productions to take Theatre to the community. We have booked two public performances (Manatee Co. Public Library South, and The Anna Maria Library), and five private performances for Heritage Park, Water’s Edge and Freedom Village. Many of our actors have volunteered their time for this community outreach. Off-Stage Ladies have co-produced our premier season and we are very grateful for their help and support.

I have been treated to lunch and the opportunity to talk about our Island Players at both the Off-Stage Ladies monthly meeting and also the Anna Maria Rotary Club. Both very active and vibrant organizations. A couple of the perks of holding the office of Board President!

I hope before the season is over you will all have the chance to join us for one of our Porch and Garden Parties prior to seeing a performance. The kick-off in September was such a pleasure. We all enjoyed meeting and greeting so many of our long-time patrons.

Yes, our 75th Season is going to be memorable (don’t forget to sign in to our web-site memory page and sign the guest - book in the lobby for our archives).

We have lots more in store with Later Life, The Mousetrap, Communicating Doors and The Woman in Black. I can guarantee they will be as amazing as our opening, Farce of Nature!

We have added several more Assisted Hearing Loops to our supply. Be sure to reserve one when you reserve your ticket.

Everyone is working very hard: The Board of Directors, Techies, Back-stage, front of house, artists and of course our Box Office to make Island Players your favorite THEATRE!

Best to all,

Cathy
