Volunteers

Our Volunteers

Interested in Volunteering with the Island Players?

We are a not-for-profit comprised almost entirely of volunteers! If you count our board of directors, play directors, stage managers, actors, box office staff, production / set / lighting / sound / costume designers, hair & makeup staff, props / construction / site maintenance crew, social media managers, ushers, and the Off-Stage Ladies, we number well over 300+ who keep our little theater on the Island running - all through our sheer love for what we can provide for our community!

We’re always on the lookout for fun-loving, enthusiastic, and dedicated volunteers! While you can simply let us know you're interested in helping out (we'll find a home for you!), we do especially need assistance in the following areas:

  • Graphic Designers: We don't need anyone with highly specialized skills; just someone who can crop PDFs, edit graphic files, create ads for local newspapers and create digital content.  Anyone with basic PowerPoint or online editing skills will be great. If this is you, please contact us!

  • Marketing: Are you the ultimate "people person" and are able to engage others with your words? We are looking for someone enthusiastic, who has a passion for our little community theater and can interact with our online subscribers on a regular basis throughout the season. All you need is the ability to compose effective and engaging messaging using any word processing software.

  • House Managers: As part of the front-of-house team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the theater is ready for patrons on the night of a show. House Managers not only interact with patrons, they also manage ushers and work in tandem with the Box Office team and Stage Manager. After a couple of hours of training, your time commitment will be 3.5 hours per shift, with approximately two shifts required per production. No experience necessary; training will be provided. Multiple positions available.

  • Backstage Crew: As part of the back-of-house team, you’ll help prepare everything backstage and onstage before a show. During the show, you’ll provide costuming assistance, prop handoffs, and the onstage “magic” for each production. Backstage Crew support the Stage Manager and Actors with the running of a show. After a couple of hours of orientation per production, your time commitment will be 3.5 hours per shift, with approximately 3-5 shifts per production. No experience necessary; training will be provided. Multiple positions available.

Seasonal volunteers are more than welcome to apply! Our productions run in September, November, January, March, and May. As long as you’re committed to participating in the entirety of a single production (or more), we’d love to hear from you!

If interested, please send an email with your name, phone number and area of interest to Volunteers@theislandplayers.org. We look forward to hearing from you!

Off Stage Ladies

We are the Off - Stage Ladies of the Island Players and our purpose is to give support and aid to the Island Players!

In addition, the Off Stage Ladies have taken on a new role as co producer of the Island Players new outreach program entitled Island Players Offstage Actors!

We are here to usher each Play presented, and to provide meals for our cast members during rehearsals on what we call Long Sundays!

There are wonderful volunteer opportunities available with the Off -Stage Ladies. Your commitment level can be very flexible. Many of our Off-Stage Ladies may also assist with props, lighting, costumes and more.

We are a fun-loving group of ladies who meet on a regular basis from October through May on the second Wednesday of each month. Our meetings are held at local venues, and we look to provide programming related to the theater in a relaxed social setting that also allows you to meet new and interesting people.

We are always looking for new members to join us. So, if you are outgoing, organized and fun and want to help us grow our volunteer organization, please sign on."
